Just Energy Transition Academy: Strengthening Capacities in Coal Regions (Asia-Pacific)

Coal phaseout is one of the most important strategies for achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement in order to limit global warming. Regions in transition can benefit from knowledge-sharing spaces, where leaders and stakeholders can share cutting-edge knowledge and ongoing practices, challenges, and reflections.

Hosted by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the 2025–2026 IKI JET Training Series compiles regional and global priorities into a modular training package for multi-disciplinary learning pathways.

The Just Energy Transition Academy’s course entitled Strengthening Capacities for Just Energy Transition (JET) in Coal Regions in Transition is offered within the framework of the Innovation Regions for a Just Energy Transition (IKI JET) project. It aims to enable participants to strengthen their knowledge on key JET themes and engage in peer-to-peer exchanges to develop tailored approaches and solutions to critical JET issues at national and subnational levels. The course will span 30 hours of learning in an online format that combines webinars with self-guided learning modules. The key topics include:

• Social dialogue and skills development for JET: why and how?
• Social protection for JET
• Fostering business resilience and innovation in JET for coal regions in transition
• How to design people-centred, inclusive, and gender-responsive JET solutions
• Accounting for the informal economy: challenges and opportunities for JET
• Action planning 101

Each participant will be able to select from a menu of topics, crafting a tailored approach to their learning needs, aspirations, and interests.
