Foundation Programme on Just Energy Transition in Coal Mining Regions
Coal phaseout is one of the most important strategies for achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement in order to limit global warming. Regions in transition can benefit from knowledge-sharing spaces, where leaders and stakeholders can share cutting-edge knowledge and ongoing practices, challenges, and reflections.
Hosted by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the 2025–2026 IKI JET Training Series compiles regional and global priorities into a modular training package for multi-disciplinary learning pathways.
The Foundation Programme on Just Energy Transition in Coal Mining Regions, offered within the framework of the IKI JET project, aims to provide practical tools and strengthen the capacity of stakeholders in and around coal mining regions. The course will span 30 hours of learning through an online format that combines webinars with self-guided learning modules. The key topics include:
- Climate change, climate policies, and employment and decent work
- The just transition: conceptual framework and policy guidance
- Just transition in coal regions: drivers and opportunities
- Just transition in coal regions: experiences and lessons learned
- Social dialogue for a just transition
- Leaving no one behind: gender equality and inclusion of vulnerable groups and persons in vulnerable situations
- Financing a just transition
