IKI JET Study Tour 2024: Just Transition in South Africa—Lessons from Mpumalanga
In October 2024, a group of coal region stakeholders from around the world embarked on a study tour across South Africa’s coal heartland, Mpumalanga.
As the world shifts away from dependence on fossil fuels, regions like Mpumalanga are facing a complex energy transition. The aim of the study tour, organised by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit as part of the IKI JET project, was to learn from the successes and challenges of South Africa’s just transition.
