Towards a Skills Plan: Reflecting on the JET-IP skills development interventions

The Presidential Climate Commission of South Africa will host a discussion on the skills development interventions of the country’s Just Energy Transition Investment Plan on November 1, which for the five-year period 2023-2027, sets out the scale of need and the investments required to achieve the decarbonisation commitments in the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution.

The discussion has the following objective: knowledge sharing on the mechanisms for demand-led skills interventions; identification of niche or emerging industries and their skills as key opportunities; provision of a platform to reflect on the submitted interventions for the JET IP skills chapter; and the initiation of long-term research programmes for future skills development planning with the intent to integrate climate transition considerations into the national skills development plan.
