Report Launch: 1.5°C-aligned coal power transition pathways in Indonesia – additional strategies beyond the CIPP

Indonesia has ratified the Paris Agreement, a legally binding international treaty on ambitious targets to reduce emissions and limit global warming to 1.5°C. The country published the first draft of its Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) Comprehensive Investment and Policy Plan (CIPP) in November 2023. The CIPP document was expected to outline how the JETP will achieve emissions reduction and renewable energy targets through investments and policies. However, several key elements for a successful transition away from coal are absent from the current version.

Join the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) and the Center for Global Sustainability (CGS) at the University of Maryland for an online event on June 4 to learn more about strategies for a coal transition in Indonesia. Two new reports will be launched at the event, followed by a discussion to share key findings and recommendations with Indonesian stakeholders.
