International Conference on Defining the Road to Zero Carbon Prosperity: Just transitions and economic diversification workstream
How can countries develop new sources of economic prosperity as they transition away from fossil fuels, while ensuring that workers, communities and affected regions can shape and benefit from this transformation?
As part of the International Conference on Defining the Road to Zero Carbon Prosperity, taking place from 26-28 October 2026 in Guangzhou, China, Climate Strategies and LACLIMA will co-host a workstream on Just Transitions and Economic Diversification.
The Zero Carbon Prosperity conference builds on the First International Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels (TAFF), held in Santa Marta, Colombia, in April 2026, where the concept of Zero Carbon Prosperity was introduced.
The workstream will be structured around two interconnected sessions:
– Designing and Implementing Just Transitions will explore how just transition commitments can be translated into practical policies and meaningful outcomes for workers and communities. Discussions will consider social dialogue, workforce policies, community participation, regional investment and approaches to ensuring that affected groups can shape and benefit from the transition.
– Delivering Economic Diversification will examine how fossil fuel-dependent economies can develop new industries, jobs and sources of public revenue. The session will explore industrial strategies, low-carbon value chains, domestic value addition, finance and international cooperation, with a focus on practical experiences and lessons from different countries.
