How to Engage with Trade Unions on Just Transition for Better NDCs

On June 10, a side event of the 60th sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB 60) – also known as the UNFCCC’s Bonn Climate Change Conference – will be held at the World Conference Center in Bonn to explore how to engage with trade unions on just transition. Organisers of this side event include the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), and Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ).

The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28) saw broad support for just transition policies to accelerate climate action. The focus on labour rights and social dialogue at COP 28 assumes active collaboration with trade unions and should be reflected in better nationally determined contributions (NDCs).

Speakers:

Bert De Wel (moderator), ITUC Global Climate Policy Coordinator
Amanda McKee, Director NDC Partnership
Hae Kyeung Chun, Officer Skills and Employability, ILO
John Mark Mwanika, Chair, Urban Transport Committee, ITF
Rebecca Okello, Climate Policy Advisor, COTU-Kenya
Patrick Rondeau, Directeur Service Environnement et Transition juste, FTQ
