Green Energy Transition Indonesia Day 2026

To increase the penetration of renewables, Indonesia must address structural regulatory challenges. These include, for example, the low cost of coal electricity due to the Domestic Market Obligation and Domestic Price Obligation policies, and the limited flexibility in the electricity system.

At the same time, hydrogen is becoming a crucial option for storing and scaling up clean energy, representing a strategic solution for decarbonisation across sectors. With the launch of its National Hydrogen Strategy and the National Hydrogen and Ammonia Roadmap, Indonesia has entered an important chapter in hydrogen development.

The Green Energy Transition Indonesia (GETI) project serves as a policy reform initiative to support the Just Energy Transition Partnership’s Comprehensive Investment and Policy Plan report and the Indonesia Green Hydrogen Accelerator initiative.

The project, implemented by the Institute for Essential Services Reform in collaboration with the British Embassy, aims to strengthen the policy foundation, increase market readiness, and accelerate investments towards a cleaner, more competitive, and more sustainable energy system in Indonesia.

As GETI draws to a close, this event will promote the report developed by the project and provide a space to discuss Indonesia’s future targets.
