Conference on Just Transformation to Support Green Growth and Inclusive Climate Action in Maharashtra
As India moves towards its net-zero goal, the country’s industrial hub, the state of Maharashtra, must start planning a just transition that will create opportunities for employment and green growth. The state, which aims to become a USD 5 trillion economy by 2047, must lead with climate-resilient and socially inclusive strategies. Towards this goal, the International Forum for Environment, Sustainability and Technology (iFOREST) will present India’s first regional Just Transition investment plan to transform the Yavatmal–Nagpur–Chandrapur region, the state’s largest coal-reliant cluster, into a green economy.
The iFOREST and the Maharashtra government’s Department of Environment and Climate Change are hosting a conference titled Just Transition to Support Green Growth and Inclusive Climate Action in Maharashtra. The conference, which will be opened by Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, will gather together policy-makers, industry leaders, financial institutions, academics, and civil society. The conference will mark the release of the iFOREST’s new report on the green investment and job creation roadmap and provide a multi-stakeholder dialogue on scalable solutions to accelerate India’s green transition while ensuring social equity.
