ASIA Clean Energy Forum 2024: Thematic track session 1.1 – renewable energy for power

The Asian Development Bank (ADB), along with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Korea Energy Agency (KEA), is hosting the 19th Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF) in Manila on June 3–7, 2024. The event is aimed at clean energy practitioners—including government agencies, the private sector, equipment and service providers, financiers, philanthropic organisations, researchers, and non-governmental organisations. Under this year’s theme, Accelerating the Clean Energy Transition and Ensuring Energy Security and Affordability – Time for Urgent Action Now, ACEF 2024 will invite participants to discuss solutions to navigate the complex global energy landscape marked by an increasingly constrained fiscal space, high borrowing costs, and market disruptions due to geopolitical tensions that are affecting energy supply chains, energy prices, and investments.

Thematic track session 1.1 on renewable energy for power will delve into the latest progress, barriers, and efforts in the renewables sector across Asia. The session will discuss regulatory bottlenecks and clean energy procurement mechanisms in Southeast Asia, such as Thailand’s Utility Green Tariff and Vietnam’s pilot of a direct power purchase agreement. In addition, speakers will highlight the growing share of renewables in Central Asia and South Korea, along with their strategies for overcoming limitations in domestic energy resources. The session will also feature a presentation on the collaborative IKI JET project, which aims to facilitate a just energy transition in coal regions in Chile, Colombia, South Africa, Mongolia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand.
