6th Europe-China Workshop on Clean Energy Transition

Coal regions across the world are at a critical juncture. As they navigate the pressures of industrial restructuring, energy transition, and green growth, urgent questions emerge: How can coal regions strengthen economic resilience while advancing climate goals? What lessons can be learned from experiences across Europe and China? How can regions maintain competitiveness, create new economic opportunities, and ensure that no communities are left behind during the transition?

To explore these questions, Agora Energy China, Agora Energiewende, the Wuppertal Institute, and Forum Energii, will host the 6th Europe-China workshop on clean energy transition.

The workshop will focus on the economic revitalisation and just transition of coal regions in China, Germany, and Poland. Participants will discuss how to strengthen regional and industrial competitiveness while advancing green growth.

Discussions will explore practical approaches, including multi-level governance mechanisms, innovative transition financing, deep decarbonisation of traditional industries, pathways for alternative industries, and cross-regional cooperation. Through dialogue and comparative exchange among the three countries, the workshop aims to identify transferable policy tools and financing models that can support coal regions in sustaining economic vitality and employment while progressing toward net-zero emissions.
