Expert Exchange: Multi-dimensional aspects of internationally-supported just transitions – The case of JETPs in Indonesia and South Africa
Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETPs) are among the most recent international cooperation efforts supporting climate mitigation and energy transition in emerging and developing economies. Initiated by the International Partners Group (IPG), comprising G7 members, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and the EU, JETPs aim to accelerate coal phase-out, promote green industrial development, and ensure a just transition for coal-dependent communities.
As implementation progresses in Indonesia and South Africa, JETPs face a range of economic, social, and procedural challenges. This expert exchange will share experiences and lessons learned from both countries, examining how they address different dimensions of justice such as procedural, distributive, recognitional, restorative, cosmopolitan, and intergenerational. It will also provide insights into the overall status, challenges, and future directions of both JETPs as instruments for internationally supported just transitions.
