Just Energy Transition in NDCs: Ensuring policy coherence
This online workshop, hosted by the International Labour Organization (ILO), will explore the relationship between nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and the Just Energy Transition. Speakers will share practical knowledge and examples from countries that have included references to just energy transition in their NDCs.
The coherence of labour, social, and climate policies is central to a just transition. Climate plans like NDCs offer an important entry point for promoting a just transition, signaling commitments and priorities. Meanwhile, countries also need to develop policy instruments that govern and implement initiatives on skills development, social protection, rights, social dialogue, enterprise development and other areas. Moreover, just transition frameworks and strategies may be developed to support policy coordination across stakeholders. These multilayer regulations require a careful approach to ensure policy coherence in their pursuit of the same goal.
This workshop forms part of the Community of Practice (CoP) for Just Energy Transition in Asia, facilitated by the ILO under the project “Innovation Regions for a Just Energy Transition” (IKI-JET). The initiative supports stakeholders as they plan and implement just energy transition pathways away from coal.
