A discussion with South Sumatra’s Coal Mining Companies

To face a post-coal future, the Indonesian coal-producing province of South Sumatra has made economic transformation and just energy transition strategic priorities in its 2025-2029 Provincial Medium-Term Development Plan. The province has also launched a regional consultation forum (RCF) to explore potential sectors to replace coal in terms of growth, employment, and energy security.

The Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of South Sumatra will hold a discussion with coal mining companies regarding energy transition and opportunities in former mining land areas.

The objectives of this event are to:

1. Communicate the strategic role of the RCF,
2. Discuss how to align South Sumatra’s economic transformation plan with mining operational plans (including mandatory initiatives such as reclamation, post-mining, and community development and empowerment programmes),
3. Discuss opportunities for repurposing post-mining land for alternative economic activities and renewable energy.

The event will be conducted in Indonesian. However, two speakers will present in English, so interpretation devices will be available. Please contact the organisers to reserve one.
